Objective:In this study it was used Biofeedback Therapy mediated by EMG and anorectal pressure as a method for Functional Defecation Disorders(FDD), with the purpose of proving the worthy of clinical application of this kind of new behavior therapy by the clinical observation of the impact on the symptoms and mentation state. Found some association between biofeedback and its effection on mentation state. Also, it can lay the foundation for the further clinical trials, in order to provide reliable information for the Evidence-Based Medicine.Methods:20 adults with FDD were asked to receive symptoms collection, anorectal manometry and mental state assessment at pretherapy and protherapy. Then 3-6 months follow-up were choosed. We can observe and compare the patients'improvement on symptoms, relaxation rate of the anus duiring denfecation and the mental state before and after the treatment and its short-term efficacy. Results:Only 1 patient has poor effect whereas 19 other patients have good and fairly good effect. The total effective rate is 95%. The improvement of the symptoms, relaxation rate of the anus duiring defecation and the mental state after the treatment were significant (p=0.000); 3 months after the treatment, there were 17 patients still had good effect, only 2 patients were relapsed; however, after 3 months later, one of the relapsed patients has improved where as other 16 people still had good effect (p<0.05).Conclusion:Biofeedback therapy mediated by EMG and anorectal pressure is safe and effective for the Functional defecation disorders in adults. It is worthy of clinical application for it can improve the patients' mentation state significantly and it's a kind of behavior therapy with much fun and no trauma. Randomized trials with sufficient number of patients and long-term efficacy are necessary to compare the efficacy of biofeedback therapy with other treatments of this condition, espetially the Chinese medicion treatment based on differentiation of symptoms and signs.
