Objective investigates expression of PTEN(Phosphatase and tensin homology deleted on chromosome ten,PTEN ) in bladder transitional carcinoma(BTCC) and its clinical significance. Methods Fifty-one cases of bladder transitional carcinoma,forty-two cases of Cystitis Glandularis(CG) and ten cases of normal bladder tissue were collected from Affiliated Hospital of Guilin Medical University from 2006 to 2009.Bladder cancer cases included 41 males and 10 females with age ranging from 23 to 89 years(mean 61.2 years) and divided into group GⅠ(15 cases),group GⅡ(16 cases),group GⅢ(20 cases) and group Tis–T1 (27 cases), group T2-T4 (24 cases) according to TNM staging criteria and WHO grading criteria. CG cases included 14 males and 28 females with age ranging from 27 to 72 years(mean 44.6 years). ten normal bladder tissue cases included 6 males and 4 females with mean age 46.6 years. All samples were derived from cystoscopic biopsy and were subjected to histopathological examination to confirm the diagnosis.Immunohistochemistry S-P methods is used to demonstrate the expression of PTEN in 51 cases of Bladder Transitional cell Carcinoma(BTCC) and 42 cases of Cystitis Glandularis(CG) and 10 cases of normal bladder tissue. All statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS13.0 software package and we usedχ2-test.Results 1.The positive rate of PTEN expression in BTCC ,CG and normal bladder tissue are 58.8%,81% 100%,and there is statistic significance (χ2 =12.444,P<0.01) among three groups. 2.51 cases of BTCC are divided into group GⅠ,GⅡ,GⅢand Tis–T1 ,T2-T4,and there is statistic significancy among group GⅠand GⅡ,GⅢ(χ2 =11.022,P<0.01),between group Tis–T1 and T2-T4 (χ2 =5.509,P<0.05).Conclusion The reduced expression or loss of PETN might play an important role in carcinogenesis and progression of bladder cancer. The positive rate of PTEN expression was negatively correlated to the clinical and grade staging of tumor.
