ObjectiveTo explore the dynamic expression and significance of HIF-1α,VEGF in distal esophagus of portal hypertensive rats which have esophageal varices.MethodsSixty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group. In the experimental group, a one-stage ligation of portal vein plus ligation of the left adrenal vein was performed. After establishment of the model, the expression of HIF-1α,VEGF in the distal esophagus was detected with immunohistochemical SABC technique on 7d,14d,28d and comparison of these data with control group was performed respectively. In the control group, a sham-operation was performed, was also divided.ResultsThe portal venous pressure in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control, so did the vessel number and the total vascular area of the submucosal veins in the distal esophagus. Compared with the control groups, in the experimental group the expression of HIF-1αand VEGF on the 14d was stronger. There was close correlation between the expression of HIF-1αand VEGF in mucosa of distal esophagus.ConclusionIn distal esophagus of portal hypertensive rats which have esophageal varices, after portal vein ligation, The expression of HIF-1α,VEGF become higher when the time goes long. There was close correlation between the expression of HIF-1αand VEGF in mucosa of distal esophagus. So , HIF-1α,VEGF possibly play a role in the varices development.
