Comparison Of Knowledges, Attitudes And Behavior Of Nurses About Standard Precaution Between Guangzhou And Meizhou Area Hospitals

OBJECTS:To investigate the current situation of knowledges, attitudes and behavior of nurses in Guangzhou and Meizhou area hospitals about standard precaution. To compare the difference of knowledges, attitudes and behavior about standard precaution of the nurses between these two different areas. To analyze their influential factors,then provide reference evidence for promoting idea of standard precaution and establishing prevention policies in Meizhou hospitals.METHODS:1 Investigation questionnaire design:The investigation questionnaire which named "Cognitive and current implementation about standard precaution of nurses investigation questionnaire" was designed according to the objective of our study,.2 Objects determination:Three hundred and forty nurses were selected in hospitals of Guangzhou and Meizhou area randomly, with a total of 305 valid questionnaires.3 Statistics analysis:Descriptive statistics, t test, variance analysis and chi-square test_were used.RESULTS:1 The difference comparison of knowledges about standard precaution between Guangzhou and Meizhou area nurses:for the questions"the blood, body fluids, secretions and excretions of all patients were considered to be contaminated." x2=7.72, the answers between these two areas were different (P<0.05). About the other three knowledges " Standard precaution can protect both medical careers and patients ", " Standard precaution can prevent both blood-originated disease and non- blood-originated disease", " Standard precaution includes contact separation, air eparation and spittle separation" the answers were no significant different (P =0.870,0.123,0.257).2 The difference of attitudes about standard precaution between the nurses in Guangzhou and Meizhou area nurses:17.12% nurses in Meizhou hospitals thought it was unnecessary to prevent all the patients as they were potential blood-borne disease infection, while 10.69% in Guangzhou hospitals. The nurses in Meizhou hospitals pay little attention to nurses occupational protection(51.03%), while 22.64% in Guangzhou. 3 The difference of behavior about standard precaution between Guangzhou and Meizhou area nurses:There were significantly difference of protection from sharps and using protective equipments (P=0.014,0.013).The protection from blood-borne diseases, hand hygiene, disinfection and disposal of medical waste were no significant difference(P>0.05).CONCLUSIONS:1 The knowledge level of the nurses in Meizhou about the standard precaution was_slightly lower than in Guangzhou.The continuing education of nurses in Meizhou hospitals needs to be strengthened.2 The enforcement of standard precaution of the nurses in Meizhou hospitals were lower than in Guangzhou. Some nurses could recognize standard precaution correctly, but lack of action.3 It is necessary to inhance the management intervention and economic support of standard precaution in Meizhou hospitals.
