Objective To identify the risk factors of childhood leukemia in Wenzhou, Which contain environmental factors, children self factors, parental factors and pregnancy factors. Methods Questionnaire about risk factors childhood leukaemia was developed. We surveyd and analyzed the relevant risk factors of 141 children with leukaemia in Children's Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from July, 2004 to December, 2008, comparing with 141 hospitalized cases without leukaemia during the same period. Environmental risk factors include biological (children's own factors, father factors, mother factors and other factors), physics, chemistry and other elements. The significant factors were identified by single factor analysis. Then multi-factors conditional logistic regression analysis was conducted. Results 84 indexs of the single factor analysis in the logistic regression demonstrated that the frequent infection history, often suffering from infectious diseases, eating pickled food, Parents intermarrying, Father often in contact with organic solvents, mother infected during pregnancy, mother often in contact with hair dye during pregnancy, mother often using anti-mosquito tablets during pregnancy, mother often in contact with the petroleum products, housing around the air pollution, History of the family decoration, short time of check-in after decorating, obvious smell of decoration, residence near a substation, residence near a signal transmission, associated with childhood leukemia has a statistical significance. While in the multi-factors logistic regression analysis, there were nine indexs with significance, which of those are frequent infection history, eating pickled food, father often in contact with organic solvents, mother infected during pregnancy, mother often in contact with the petroleum products, housing around the air pollution, obvious smell of decoration, residence near a substation, residence near a signal transmission. We used SPSS 15.0 statistical package for date processing. Conclusion The potential risk factors of leukemia include frequent infections, often eating pickled foods, regular exposure to organic solvents father, mother infected during pregnancy, the mother during pregnancy regular contact with petroleum products, ambient air pollution, decorated smell, live near the signal tower. We should take some effective ways to control the expose of these risk factors and may prevent the occurrence of the leukemia.
