Purpose:To evaluate the effect of radiofrequency on facial skin rejuvenation.Methodology:Fifteen patients were selected at the Dermatology Department of Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University during the period from January to April 2010. The patients were aged from 20 to 60, with the following indications:obviously flabby facial skin (with deep forehead wrinkles, various fine wrinkles around the eyes, deep nasolabial groove, etc), fatty face (relatively thick fat at cheeks and mandibular), lower eyelid edema (false pouch). The patients had no active skin inflammation, allergic constitution, metal or implant, medical record of cardiac pacemaker placement, ophthalmic surgery, etc. Accent(?) Deep-blue RF Therapeutic Apparatus (Alma, Israeli) was used for facial treatment of the 15 patients. The therapeutic effect was evaluated after one course of treatment(totally three treatments at an interval of 7-14 days). Results:Out of the 15 patients treated,12 showed remarkable effects and 3 showed moderate effects, indicating an improvement ratio of 100%. Upon treatment, for most of the patients, the fined wrinkles at cheeks and around eyes and nasolabial groove became obviously shallow and lower eyelid edema and flabby cheeks were improved. The difference according to the scores evaluated before treatment (5.88±5.97) and that after (3.23±2.15) showed marked statistical significance (P< 0.005). Ten of the patients claimed obvious mend of the skin texture. No obvious discomfort was reported during or after treatment. Now the 15 patients are still under follow-up for long-term therapeutic evaluation and observation for any adverse reaction. Conclusion:Our results demonstrate that radiofrequency is an efficient and safe technique for facial skin rejuvenation.
