| Object:In order to vertify the the best opportunity to treat Bell's Palsy and the efficacy of acupuncture with muscle region to treat according to different path-stages and, a randomized controlled trial was done.Methods:There are 360 patients involved in this trial. All patients were randomly divided into a control group or a treatment group.326 patients accomplished,34 patients missing. Control group was treated with acupuncture according to different path-stages and treatment group with acupuncture according to its different path-stages. Acupuncture was performed 5 times a day, totally 20 times. The House-Brackmann Global Scores and the classification scale of Facial Paralysis were applied to evaluate the facial function after each treatment course and 1 and 3 months follow-up.Results:(1) The level from baseline of the treatment group was comparable to the control group (P>0.05). (2) The analytic result of FAS and PPS shows that the total effective rate, the recovering rate and the effective rate of the two groups were not significantly different, there were not significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05). (3) The therapeutic effect of two groups according to path-stages were not significantly different (P>0.05).There were not significantly different between two groups according different location of nerve (P>0.05). There were significantly different of treatment group according different location of nerve (P<0.05). (4) There were not significantly different between two groups in 3 month follow-up and 1 month follow-up. The functional recovery of facial movement of two groups in 3 month follow-up were better than in 1 month follow-up.Conclusion:The study showed that both the methods to treat Bell's palsy are effective, The therapeutic effect of two groups were not significantly different (P>0.05). Both the methods were safety and effective. Thus would have wide application in clinical practice.
