Objective: Explore the ultrasonic performance and physiological measurements of the upper lip orbicularis oris, hoping to further understand its morphology and structure, then provide clinical evidence for estimating the effect of surgical repairing cleft lip or lip trauma. Methods: Using the high frequency ultrasound to inspect the upper lip orbicularis oris of 106 youth (men 48 cases, women 58 cases) and 6 cases adult postoperative of harelip or lip trauma. Ask client holds lie supine, and lip is closed gently, then apply coupling agent to the probe and upper lip. Scan the upper lip orbicularis oris, and observe the shape and structure of the orbicularis oris in ultrasonogram. According to the gross anatomy and microscopic anatomy of human specimens, determine the shallow layer and deep layer of the orbicularis oris. Then measure its thickness on the philtrum concave and philtrum column. Finally use statistical methods to analyse the corresponding data. Results: The upper lip organizations are divided into six layers in ultrasonogram. According to the gross anatomy and microscopic anatomy of human specimens, determine that the shallow layer including the second and third floor and the fourth floor is the deep layer. The orbicularis oris of postoperative patients is interrupt and malposition.Use statistical methods to analyse the thickness measured value on the philtrum concave and philtrum column. As a result, normal young people shallow thickness in the sunken place is no less than 2.89 mm; the shallow thickness in the people crest is no less than 3.92 mm; the deep thickness of upper lip is no less the 1.12 mm. If not, it can be considered to diagnostic dysplasia or other diseases. Conclusion: Ultrasound technology not only can be used for examining and researching orbicularis oris, but also can be used to evaluate the operation effect. Ultrasound examination has advantages of non-invasive, repeatability, high reliability, simple, low price and so on.
