Objective To detect the expression of Integrinβ1,VEGF and MVD in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma , explore their association with clinicopathological characteristics and role in the development and progression of Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma as well as their interrelationships. Methods The expression of Integrinβ1,VEGF and MVD in 50 specimens of Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma and 20 specimens of normal hypopharyngeal tissues were evaluated by immunohistochemistry PV-9000 two-step methods. Image-ProPlus software was used to determine the mean optical density (MOD) of immunohistochemical Image. Results The overexpression rate of Integrinβ1 was significantly higher in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (78.00%) than in normal hypopharyngeal tissues (35.00%), P=0.001,and it showed significant differences in different TNM stage, pathological grade and cervical lymphnode metastasis groups(P<0.05);The overexpression rate of VEGF was significantly higher in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (74.00%) than in normal hypopharyngeal tissues (30.00%), P=0.001,and its overexpression showed statistical differences in different TNM stage, pathological grade and cervical lymphnode metastasis groups(P<0.05);The counting of MVD-CD105 was significantly higher in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma(37.10±5.95)than in normal hypopharyngeal tissues (35.00%), P=0.000,and between different TNM stage, pathological grade and cervical lymphnode metastasis groups, its counting showed statistical differences(P<0.05);The expression of three factors were not significantly different in groups of different ages, genders, tabacco hobby, and the primary site of tumor(P>0.05); The expression of Integrinβ1 was not associated with the counting of VEGF or MVD in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma(P>0.05);The expression of VEGF was positively associated with the counting of MVD in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma(r=0.582,P=0.000).Conclusion The higher expression of Integrinβ1 in Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma could mediate tumor adhesion and infiltration, and VEGF,MVD may play important roles in tumor angiogenesis;Meanwhile, highly positive correlation between VEGF and MVD may cooperatively promote tumor growth and progression;Combined detection of Integrinβ1, VEGF and MVD might be significantly helpful to comprehensively assess the biological characteristics and clinical features of hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
