Purpose:To evaluate the efficacy of combination therapy with teprenone and rabeprazole for reflux esophagitis by symptom scores, endoscopic findings and histological manifestations. Try to figure out the potential role for teprenone in the treatment of reflux esophagitis. Methods:Patients with reflux esophagitis who were diagnosed for the first time and had confirmed by an endoscopic examination were enrolled for our study. The total 20 patients were given teprenone 50mg t.i.d. and rabeprazole 10mg b.i.d for 8 weeks. Their symptoms were evaluated by a symptom questionnaire every two weeks until the 8 week's therapy completed. Another endoscopy was arranged in the 8th week to evaluate the endoscopic improvement and histological changes. Symptom disappearance rate, cure rate on endoscopic findings and changes of histological manifestation are compared before and after the therapy.Result:The symptoms, endoscopic appearances and histological manifestations were significantly improved in 8th week(P<0.01). The symptom alleviation rate. endoscopic and histological cure rate was 100%.95% and 52.6%. and the histological effective rate was 78.9%. Conclusion:Combination therapy with teprenone and rabeprazole appears to be quite effective for reflux esophagitis. The potential mechanism of this therapy may be related to PGE2, HSP and ROS, further researches are needed.
