Objective:To observe the effect of three plant ethanol extracts (Pomegranate granatum Flower Polyphenol, PFP, Cichorium Glandulosum Extract, CGE and Cicer Arietinum Total Saponins, TSCA) on glucose and lipid metabolism of type 2 diabetes rats and to discuss the mechanism from different aspect preliminarily. Methods:140 male rats were randomly separated to 9 groups:control group,model group,metformin group and three plant ethanol extracts high dose groups(300mg·kg-1),three plant ethanol extracts low dose groups (100 mg·kg-1) of PFP,CGE and TSCA.Model group was established with small dose injection of STZ (45 mg·kg-1) and feed with 4 weeks high fat diet. After 4 weeks treatment with three plant ethanol extracts, then Weight, FPG, Fins, IRI, lipid profiles, FFA, IL-6, the activity of hexokinase and glycogen were detected, observe the pathology changes of pancreas. Results:Compared with the normal control group,lipid profiles of model rats was disorder, the level of FPG, Fins, IRI, FFA and IL-6 were elevatated significantly in model group (P<0.05, P<0.01), however the activity of hexokinase and glycogen were reduced significantly (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the level of FPG, Fins, IRI, FFA and IL-6 were reduced significantly in three plant ethanol extracts groups (P<0.05, P<0.01), however the activity of hexokinase and glycogen were elevatated significantly (P<0.05, P<0.01), lipid profiles were regulated as well. Conclusions:Three plant ethanol extracts can be used to decrease FPG and to regulated lipid profiles of T2DM rats. The possible mechanism is considered to reduce the level of FFA and IL-6 in order to ameliorate IR and elevatate the activity of hexokinase and glycogen.
