Guided by this concept, it provides some treating principles and methods which play an important part in the whole system of TCM.The purpose of this paper was to explain the women's menopausal syndrome from the qi mechanism of the six-meridians.MethodsThe subject use a retrospective study method, to integrate document review with theortic research.According to the ancient literatures, the paper summarized the research progress of the women's menopausal syndrome in these aspects of pathogenesis and clinical treatment. According to the recent literatures, the paper summarized the research progress of the women's menopausal syndrome in these aspects of pathogenesis and clinical treatment; also put forward constructive advice to aim at the problems treated the disease, such as the no unified standard for classification of syndrome or estimation of therapeutic effect. The Elementary Questions (Suwen, Shanggu Tianzhen Lun) states:"For a woman, after the age of forty-nine (7*7), her Chong and Ren meridians are both declining, her menstruation severs as her Taingui being exhausted. Her physique turns old and feeble, and by then, she can no more conceive". The theory is an important part in the qi mechanism of the six-meridians. It originated from Suwen, Yinyanglihelun and Lingshu, Genjie. Taiyang is Open, Yangming is Close and Shaoyang is Axis at yang door. Taiyin is Open, Jueyin is Close and Shaoyin is Axis at yin door. The paper discoursed that the functional characteristic of Open, Close and Axis. Open is primary ascending and exiting. Close is primary descending and entering. Axis is the adjustor between Open and Close. Yang Open and Yin Open, Yang Close and Yin Close, Yang Axis and Yin Axis contacts closely and interact reciprocally in physiological and pathhological effects. The paper explained the women's menopausal syndrome from the theory of manifestation-root-medial qi. The theory is an important part in the qi mechanism of the six-meridians. It originated from Suwen, liuweizhidalun and Suwen, zhizhenyaodalun. The roots are the six climatic phenomena - wind, cold, fire or heat, dampness, dryness and snmmer-heat. The manifestations are the three yin (Taiyin, Shaoyin and Jueyin) and the three yang (Taiyang, Yangming and Shaoyang). The medial qi are exterior and interior relationship with the manifestations. The transformation of Shaoyang and Taiyin from the root. The transformation of Shaoyin and Taiyang from the root and the manifestation. The transformation of Yangming and Jueyin from the medial qi. The theory of manifestation-root-medial qi explained the physiology and pathology of the human body as well as their relationship to the outside environment, and summarized special laws of diseases transformation.ConclusionThe paper analayzed, studied, summarized and explained the women's menopausal syndrome from the theory of the qi mechanism of the six-meridians. When the theory of the qi mechanism of the six-meridians is applied in the women's menopausal syndrome, the classification of phenomena according to the properties of the theory of Open, Close and Axis and the theory of manifestation-root-medial qi, and their relationships are used to explain both physiological and pathological phenomenna, and to guide clinical diagnosis and treatment.
