Objectives:To investigate the effect of cadmium body burden on workers exposed to cadmium, to study the long term damage effect under different cadmium body burdens on workers health and the counterm easures, so as to prevent and reduce the occurrence of occupational disease.Methods:According to relevant standards and norms, occupational health survey and occupational health test in public health were conducted on nickel cadmium battery industry in Hunan to fully reflect the existed types, distribution and concentration (intensity) of occupational hazards, exposure, protective facilities and personal protection.The content urinary of cadmium, urinaryβ2- MG and urinary retinol binding protein (RBP) on 1136 cadmium oxide exposed workers were detected.Results:The occupational hazards of nickel, cadmium, benzene, xylene, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxideluene and noise existed in this nickel-cadmium battery industry. Except for cadmium and noise, other occupational hazards in the workplace basically met the national occupational health standards. Cadmium dust was seriously beyond standard; the unqualified rate of cadmium in the air of workplace was 67. 7%; 350 of 1136 workers exposed to cadmium exceed standard in urine cadmium.18 Of 1136 workers exposed to cadmium exceed standard in concentration of urine p2-MG,163 Of 1136 workers were exceed standard in concentration of urinary retinol binding protein.Conclusions:Due to lack of occupational protection facilities, cadmium dust pollution is serious in nickel-cadmium battery industry, cadmium body burden is heavy in workers with renal damage, the effective control measures should be taken.
