Purpose:To study the expression of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) in non-small cell lung cancer and its correlations with microvascular density (MVD),microlymphatic density (MLD). Methods:The expression of COX-2 were detected by PV-9000 immunohistochemistrical method in 80 cases of non-small cell lung cancer and cancer side organization. Be both CD34 and D2-40, were detected in non-small cell lung cancer microvascular and microlymphatic density. Results:(1) COX-2 was expressed in tumor tissues and cancer side organizations, but positive expression of COX-2 was significantly higher organized in the tissues of non-small cell lung cancer than in the cancer side organizations. Among them, COX-2's positive expression rate in non-small cell lung cancer was 88.75%, while was 13.33% in the lung cancer side organizations. (2) The expression of COX-2 in non-small cell lung cancer had no significant difference between gender, local and histologic type (P>0.05).The over expression of COX-2 was related with clinical pathologic parameters, such as tumor size, histologic grade, lymphatic metastasis and clinical staging (P<0.05).(3) The MLD of cases with positive COX-2 expression was significantly higher than those without COX-2 expression, so was MVD (P<0.05).Conclusions:(1) COX-2 express high existence in the tissues of non-small cell lung cancer, which show they were highly associated with the occurrence and development of the non-small cell lung cancer. (2) COX-2 may participate in the metastasis of non-small cell lung cancer through promoting vascularization in the tumors.
