Objective:Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant:tumor originating from the Salivary glands. The characteristic clinicopathological feature of this tumor are local recurrences and distant metastases. This retrospective study is intended to analyze the factors impacting local recurrences and distant metastases of a grer:p of 49 ACC patients, who were treated in our clinic. Methods:49 patients with ACC of salivary glands were treated with definitive surgery in the clinic of oral and maxillofacial surgery of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Hospital. This study retrospectively reviewed clinical records of those patients according to the patient age, gender, race, the location of the lesion, treated methods, tumor stage, perineural invasion, histological subtype, surgical margins, locally invasion. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied to this study. Result:The overall local recurrence rate was 46.9% and distant metastases rate was 30.6%. Univariate analysis revealed that the factors impacting the local recurrences and distant metastases were histological subtypes, surgical margin, locally invasion. Multivariate analysis is showed that the histological subtype, the location of the lesion, locally invasion and age were independently associated to prognosis. Conclusion:Histological subtype and positive or negative surgical margin are the independent factors affecting the local recurrences and distant metastases of patients with ACC of salivary glands.
