Objective:To investigate the relationship between the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) and Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) scoring used in predict the prognosis of patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE).Method:Collected seventy diagnosised and have recived surgical treatment patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University in 2002-01~2009-12. Results:Twenty three cases appeared postoperative serious complica-tions, the rate was 32.9%. MELD score was average 17±5.2, MELD score in complication group was average 19.58±5.9, MELD score in no-complication group was average 12.27±2.94, the difference between each groups has statistically significant (t=-4.30, P< 0.01). MELD< 14,14≤MELD< 24 and MELD≥24 groups with complication rates were 10.0%(3/30),35.7%(10/28) and 83.3% (10/12). The difference between each groups has statistically significant. CTP score was average 7.2±1.92. CTP score in complication group was average 8.84±1.87, CTP score in no-complication group was average 6.10±1.12, the difference between each groups has statistically significant (t=-5.95, P<0.01). A,B and C groups with complication rates were 10.3% (3/29),36.0% (9/25) and 68.8%(11/16). The difference between each groups has statistically significant. MELD score showed significant correlations with CTP. The area under the ROC:MELD was 0.877, CTP was 0.852, The difference between the two groups has no statistically significant. Conclusion:Both MELD and CTP scores can accurately predict the short term prog- nosis of patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis hepatic alveolar echinococcosis.
