ObjectiveTo evaluate comprehensively the degree of exposure and damage to the pineal region before and after tentorial incision from the Poppen approach, so as to provide theoretical guidance. to the clinical ues of Poppen approaches in the treatment of pineal lesionsMethodsThe study mimicked the Poppen approach in 5 adult Chinese cadaver heads (10 sides), after every operative step of different approaches, the exposure degree and exposure area of each extended step of the Poppen approach was evaluated by Ammirat's surgical exposure grading system and Horgan method respectively. ResultsThe overall score and the exposure area of each of the two steps of the Poppen approach are 1,3 and (566.20±80.72) mm2,(1100.31±123.46)mm2,respectively. The exposure area increased remarkably with each step. The damage degree of each of two steps of the Poppen approach is 4 and 6, The latter expanded the right of the pineal regionConclusionAfter tentorial incision of Poppen approach can significantly expand the exposure of the pineal region, and the damage to surrounding normal structures is not signifiicantly increased. Therefore, After tentorial incision of Poppen approach can be used as the first surgical approach choice for lesions of the pineal Region.
