| Objective: Poppen approach is a common approach to treat pineal region tumors.This paper aims to summarize the clinical efficacy of Poppen approach in treating pineal region tumors by analyzing the clinical features of 2 cases of pineal region tumors,and to discuss the selection of Poppen approach and Krause approach,so as to increase the understanding of the disease and provide experience and summary for related surgeries in clinical work.Methods:The cases were from 2 patients with giant pineal region tumors admitted to Neurosurgery Department of the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University from December 2018 to January 2019.The clinical case data,intraoperative images,and postoperative follow-up results of the 2 patients with pineal region tumors treated by Poppen approach in our department were analyzed and summarized in retrospective study.After admission,physical examination was carried out in detail,and routine examinations such as head magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),and head computed tomography(CT),and electrocardiogram were perfected.According to the image examination,the surgical approach was determined and the surgery was carried out.Experience was summarized combined with postoperative complications and follow-up results.Results: The tumors of the 2 cases were removed completely.The postoperative pathology showed atypical meningioma(WHO? grade)and immature teratoma respectively.The surgery process was smooth.No complications occurred in the 2 cases and the postoperative recovery was good.Conclusion:Poppen approach was a commonly used surgical method for treatment of pineal region tumors.The surgery field of the pineal region was fully exposed,and the surgery was completed in the physiological gap of the brain,with little damage to normal brain tissues.During surgery,blood supply arteries and deep cerebral veins of tumors could be treated under direct vision,which was especially suitable for pediatric patients and larger tumors. |
