Clinical Study Of Old Scaphoid Fracture Or Scaphoid Nonunion Treated With Vascular Bone Grafts Pedicled On The Nasopharyngeal Fossa Recurrent Branch Of The Radial Artery

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to discuss clinical effect of the method for treating old scaphoid fracture or scaphoid nonunion with vascular bone grafts pedicled on the nasopharyngeal fossa recurrent branch of the radial artery.MethodsNine patients, including five cases of old scaphoid fracture and four cases of scaphoid nonunion were treated with vascular bone grafts pedicled on the nasopharyngeal fossa recurrent branch of the radial artery between May 2008 and April 2009, they were taken X-ray examination at regular intervals after operation for bone union and evaluated wrist function by the indexes of flexion, extension, radial deviation, ulnar deviation, wrist pain and grip strength with Modification of Mayo Wrist Scoring system.ResultsThe cut of all the patients healed well. With a follow-up time of 12.7 (range,2-22) months, All the nine patients get united from 2 months to 4 months after operation.The weakness and pain of wrist relieved or disappeared, and the motion of affected wrist recovers satisfactorily. Seven of them were followed-up and get functional evaluation in the whole course. Among of functional result of 7 cases, three cases were excellent, two were good and two were fair.Conclusion This method for treating old scaphoid fracture or scaphoid nonunion is a simple operation to master, The grafts has stable blood supplyment, and the fractures get unioned much quickly,The motion of wrist recover satisfactorily...
