ObjectiveTo evaluate the treatment effect of scaphoid nonunion by vascularized Listertubercle bone grafts with branches of radial artery and Herbert screw fixation.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed the13cases of our hospital suffering from scaphoidnonunion from2011to2013who are divided to two groups. One group of7cases,named experimental group, were treated with vascularized Lister tubercle bone graftswith branches of radial artery and Herbert screw fixation, and the other of6cases,named control group, were treated with traditional bone grafting and Herbert screwfixation. Outcome were assessed by the modified Mayo wrist score system, such aspain intensity, functional status, range of motion, grip strength and the total wristfunction.ResultsThe13cases were all followed up average3.5months after operation. The totalscore of the experimental group after operation was86.4±9.4and that of the controlgroup was71.7±9.3, and there was an difference between them(P<0.05). The totalscore of the control group before operation was60.0±8.4, which was different fromthat after operation(P<0.05). The total score of the experiment group was60.7±7.9,which was different from that after operation(P<0.05).ConclusionOur studies suggested that whether vascularized Lister tubercle bone grafts withbranches of radial artery and Herbert screw fixation or traditional bone grafting andHerbert screw fixation were effective methods for treating scaphoid nonunion, however, the former is better.
