OBJECTIVE:This experiment making models with Allen's weight drop method, with the help of motor evoked potential (MEP), so that we can valuation the curative effect of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) to acute spinal cord injury(ASCI) in rats.METHODS:30 adult male Sprague Dawley rats with 250-300g body weight (BWT) were randomly divided into two primary group:(1)Control group (group C, n=15);(2)Teramethylpyrazine treated group (group T, n=15). Allen's weight drop method was used to establish the ASCI rat model at T10 section in the C and T groups.A dose of 200mg/kg BWT of TMP was administered in the T group rats intraperitoneally 30 minutes after injury, each rat was treated once a day for 5 days following the ASCI.The C group rats were treated with saline solution (NS) in the same way. Measure the motor evoked potential of the rats with BL-420E biological experiment system before it was injured, at once injured, three days later, seven days later, fourteen days later,twenty-one days later, measue the amplitude and the incubation period of TMP. The software SPSS 17.0 was applied to determine if there was significant difference between group C and T.RESULTS:The amplitude of TMP group are larger than Compare group, the incubation period of TMP group are shorter than Compare group, they have statistic difference. And TMP can influence the amplitude earlier than the incubation period.CONCLUSION:TMP can influence the MEP of rats after SCI,The change of MEP perhaps is caused by the curative effect of TMP to the ASCI of rats.
