Recently, fastigial nucleus stimulation has got more attention on curing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and fastigial nucleus electrical stimulator based on this technology has been widely used on clinic and had got curative effect on insominia, cerebral stroke and cerebral infarction. However, at present there are lack of methods that can be used to monitor whether the current have been effectively applied to the fastigial nucleus when the fastigial nucleus is being stimulated by surface electrodes.Fastigial nucleus stimulation causes ongoing short-term changes of vascular condition like the fastigial pressor response. The amplitude and shape of pulse wave contains important physiological information reflecting cardiovascular and cerebrovascular situation. Detecting photoplethysmogram (PPG) wave of finger tip is easy, convenient, and of stable performance, using no complex and expensive detecting instrument and of no hurt. In this paper, the effect of fastigial nucleus stimulation to PPG characteristic parameters has been studied based on this and it put forward a method that can be used to monitor whether the current have been effectively applied to the fastigial nucleus when the fastigial nucleus is being stimulated by surface electrodes.In this paper, pulse wave generation mechanism, wave characteristics, characteristic parameters, the relationship between physiological factors, and the study of the physiological effects caused by fastigial nucleus stimulation to human cardiovascular system are introduced. The design of PPG signal acquisition system is described, which includes photoelectric pulse sensor, pulse wave detecting module, data collection and transformation module, power management module and PC's data processing and analyzing. The fastigial nucleus stimulation by surface electrodes experiment has been proceeded by using this system.In early experiments, differences of PPG waveform are tested under diffrent conditions of the sound, temperature and measure location, thus the suitable condition of measuring PPG signal is got. Pulse wave data of 30 volunteer whose fastigial nucleus are being stimulated by by surface electrodes have been recorded. Five characteristic parameters of PPG waveform, such as the amplitude of rising main wave named'h', the rising edge slope named'Slope', the characteristic value of pulse named'K''are extracted after wave's pre-processing. Change of each characteristic parameters are analyzed comparatively, and then the physiological changes caused by fastigial nucleus stimulation are analyzed qualitatively. Ongoing short-term change of pulse wave appears under the fastigial nucleus stimulation, which shows ongoing short-term change of each physiological parameter.
