Objective:To explore the current status of prevalence, and analysis the influence factors of diabetes mellitus (DM) among the Qingdao rural population. To establish the foundation for prevention and control of the diabetes in Qingdao, provide theoretical basis.Methods:2608 Residents aged 35-74 years old from rural areas (Huangdao, Jiaonan, Jimo) of Qingdao randomly selected and examined. 1087male and 1530 Female were interviewed and examined. A written informed consent was obtained from each of all participants. All subjects were interviewed by using a health questionnaire. General medical examination was collected. Single and multiple non-conditional Logistic regression were applied respectively to analyze the risk factors for abnormal glucose metabolism.Result:The prevalence rate was 16.79% and normative rate was16.77% for IFG/IGT, no difference between men (15.96%) and women (17.39%) (χ2=2.85, P>0.05).The prevalence rate was 10.31% and normative rate was 10.25% for DM, no difference between men (11.32%) and women (9.61%) (χ2=0.04, P>0.05). The results of the Logistic Regression showed that DM history,Age,Education,WC,Apo-B and CRP were the risk of DM and IFG/IGT.Conclusion:The prevalence rate of DM and IFG/IGT in Qingdao rural areas was high. Established risk factors are of great importance for the prevalence of diabetes in rural Qingdao populations and changes in these factors could explain the recent dramatic increase in diabetes prevalence in Qingdao rural areas. Considering the high prevalence of diabetes and IFG/IGT, intervention is urgently required in Qingdao rural areas. Health promotion on lifestyle changes may help to increase the public awareness and reduce the prevalence of DM and IFG/IGT.
