Objective To study the effect of sivelestat on plasma neutrophil elastase(NE) and urine C5b-9 during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and its protective effect on renal function and morphology. Methods 12 adult healthy dogs were randomly divided into control group and sivelestat group. Levels of plasma NE and urine were detected before CPB (T1),15min (T2) and 45min (T3) after cross clamping of aorta, and 15min (T4)and 60 min (T5)after aortic unclamping. Observe the morphology of renal after CPB. Resultsâ‘ Plasma levels of NE and urine C5b-9 were elevated after CPB in both groups, but those in sivelestat group were significantly lower than control group(P< 0.05).â‘¡Compared to siv-elestat group the morphology of renal of control group showed a significant pathologic change. Conclusion Sivelestat inhibited the activation of plasma NE and production of urine C5b-9. It showed a protective effect on renal function during cardiopulmonary bypass.
