Purpose:By analysing the efficacy of the Metastatic Brain Tumors with the Treatment of Combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine named "Chang Pu yu jin tang" and Semustine compared with the efficacy of the Treatment of Semustine in order to produce meaningful clinical guidance.Materials and Methods:1.We studied 46 patients with brain metastases that saw a doctor in the Hubei Province Chinese Medicine Hospital In the period from January 2008 to April 2009.It is a prospective clinical study. All patients were diagnosed as brain metastasis. Aged from 41 to 70 years. After they were diagnosed as brain metastasis, the Cerebral Metastasis had not been treatet with surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. With the stability of primary tumors, all the patients were in good condition, And the KPS KPS points were not lower than than 60 points.46 patients were randomly divided into two groups,23 patients belonged tothe Chinese and Western medicine group, And the other 23 patients belonged to the Western group.2. The patients of Western group were first given 125ml of 20% mannitol by means of a vein quickly, once every 12 hours, a total of three days. The fourth day, they took the Semustine 200mg/m2 orally, with taking antiemetic and sleeping pills orally before going to bed.Repeat the treatment every 6 weeks. Then gave them Conventional treatment of Dehydration with mannitol while the patients were having a rest without taking Semustine. The patients of Integrative Group were givenoral Chinese drug (treatment according to syndrome differentiationon the basis of the "Chang Pu yu jin tang") add to the same treatment as that of the patients of Western group. Severe bone marrow suppression and gastrointestinal reactions during chemotherapy are treatet with leukocytes and antiemetics accordingly.3.3 months later, we checked CT or MRI of the head again, then recorded and evaluated the situation of brain lesions. Four weeks after the last review, we checked CT or MRI of the head the third time, recording and evaluating brain lesions and the KPS score and the symptom score of headache. At the same time, we reviewed their hemogram, Liver Function Test, Renal Function Test and other mensuration of security indices. And we Observed one-year survival rate of all the patients. These results will be dealed with statistically.Result:Comparison of Short-term tcurative effect between two groups: Group of Integrative Medicine:A total of 23 cases,17.4% efficiency. Simple Western group:A total of 23 cases,13.% efficiency. After statistical analysis, the Short-term tcurative effect of the two groups had no significant s difference (p> 0.05).Comparison of KPS score before and after treatment between two groups:Group of Integrative Medicine:A total of 23 cases, increased in 12 cases,7 cases of stable, lower in 4 cases. Simple Western group:A total of 23 cases, increased in 6 cases,5 cases of stable, lower in 12 cases. After statistical analysis, KPS score after treatment in both groups were significantly different (p <0.05).Comparison of long-term tcurative effect:Integrative Medicine Group:1-year survival rate:69.6%. Simple Western group:1-year survival rate:39.1%. After statistical analysis,1 year survival rate of the two groups was significantly different (p<0.05).Comparison of headache symptom scores before and after treatment:Integrative Medicine Group:the mean symptom score before treatment:2.92±1.30, after treatment:1.40±0.52. Simple Western group:mean symptom score before treatment:2.60±1.17, after treatment:4.15±0.17. After statistical analysis, the headache symptom scores before and after treatment of two groups were significantly different (p<0.05).Conclusion:Use traditional Chinese a medicine named "Chang Pu yu jin tang" Combined with Semustine and simple Semustine to treat brain metastases respectively, the Short-term tcurative effect between two protocol are not different, but in improving the KPS score, increasing 1-year survival rate and alleviating the headache symptoms, The protocol of traditional Chinese a medicine named "Chang Pu yu jin tang" Combined with Semustine is better than the protocol only with Semustine.
