The ornament on the ancient bronze ware and the traditional architectural colored paintings all belong to the earliest ornamentation created by Chinese people, as well as the class of the utensil ornamentation (architectures can be regarded as large utensils). Bronze wares are the formal appliances that are used when people began to live in architectures. From Xia Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period, bronze wares, whose ornaments were varied and colorful, were in a period of great prosperity. The architectural colored paintings had come into being since the period of grotto paintings, and matured from the Xia Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period. Therefore, the ornament of the ancient bronze ware and the ancient architectural colored paintings has some space-time relations.Either the formation of the ancient ornament on bronze wares or the formation of the traditional architectural colored paintings is influenced by Chinese orthodox thought, which is a widespread phenomenon of cultural confinement that is formed since the beginning of the Chinese history. This kind of orthodox thought almost infiltrate into every walks of Chinese history, which deeply influenced the every field of our culture and arts. Ancient ornaments on bronze wares and traditional architectural colored paintings are also influenced by this orthodox thought.The essence of Chinese orthodox thoughts is harmony. No matter the view of nature, the appreciation of beauty, humanistic awareness or the ethics are all influenced by the harmonious opinions.Meanwhile, the hierarchy is also a main factor influencing the ornaments on utensils. In some certain types of utensils, the ornament is also a symbol of social ranks and the social relations the users belonged to. Take the ornaments on bronze wares as an example:the ornament of taotie has some symbolic meanings. It is dignified and mysterious, which not only accords with the political requirements of the governing class in slavery society, but also reveals the most basic design philosophy of Chinese ancient ornaments of bronze wares, using the shape of utensils and ornaments to fulfill the requirements of the governing class to the hierarchy, the relations they belonged to, and also the vision. The owner's social status can be clearly reflected on the architectural ornaments during the period of Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasty. People had more strict requirements on the ornaments when the society came to its pinnacle, ruling strictly on the use of each color and ornament.With the fast development of science, technology and market economy, the main value also changes, causing a revolutionary innovative tide across the world. The ancient ornaments are also in the dry tree. But all the brilliant arts of ornaments formed in ancient times are an important part of social culture. The transformative road of artistic achievements needs proper guidance, which finally will help us find a new mode of art embodying realistic significance for Chinese people nowadays.This essay raises our knowledge of ancient ornaments on bronze wares as well as traditional architectural colored paintings by exploring their meanings, aiming to attract more people to pay attention to the spiritual connotation of them. Let the unique local art form to get out of the confine of the local area, in order to be fully developed and applied by us. By inquiring and arranging the texts and reviewing and picture recording of ancient ornaments on bronze wares and traditional architectural colored paintings, this essay get an accurate understanding of the ornaments and paintings. On the basis of systematical arrangements and recognition, this essay also gets some enlightenment on the practical problems this kind of art has encountered by well-targeted researches, which would have certain extended inspiration for the development of ancient ornaments on bronze wares as well as traditional architectural colored paintings.
