Poetic Language In The Absurd Word

Can Xue, the contemporary female writer with unique style of writing is deemed as a genius in the literary circle. Studies on her since she was engaged herself in this profession has never been suspended, but about all of the studies are conducted from the angle of literature and none of them has probed into the language of her novels from the perspective of linguistics proper.This thesis aims at looking into the bizarre but philosophical and poetic characteristics of the language by the method of intuitive judgment coupled with the methods of description and analysis-synthesis and qualitative and quantitative analysis if necessary.The bizarre world beyond cure is described through employment of ugly phenomenon words, gloomy color words, illogical sentences, absurd metaphor and repetition. Nevertheless, we should see through the seemingly absurd and illogical language the poetry which is embodied by the mimetic words in abundance, philosophic sentences, symbolism, and the way of expressing emotion.In addition, this thesis looks into the reason for the features of Can Xue's unique language and finds out that her temperament and life, western culture and Wu Chu culture play a significant role.In the conclusion, the importance of the study conducted in this thesis for the study on the language of Can Xue's novels, on the tendency of contemporary Chinese novels, and on the appreciation of prevalent literary works is recognized.
