The present thesis analyses the reform trend of vocal music teaching in normal universities from the perspective of musical sociology. By tracing the relationship between music and society and observing current mode of music communication, this thesis aims to explore the social status and function of vocal music in normal universities, dynamically study the development of vocal music in normal universities, and thus provide a social basis for the reform of vocal music teaching in normal universities.The teaching content of vocal music in normal universities has been focusing on singing such serious songs as national songs and classical songs by using scientific manner of articulation, while it has paid little attention to the current situation of popular music. Education is to serve the society, therefore as a music servo the teaching of vocal music in normal universities should realize the current situation of social vocal music, that is, the diversity of such kind of vocal music as original ecological folk songs, trans-boundary music, musical, pop music, public chorus, bel canto, national music, national-popular music, belcanto-popular music, drama and folk art. All those kinds of vocal music greatly influence the common people, thus it is not in accordance with the requirements of music servo if vocal music teaching only focuses on academic music and neglects other kinds of vocal music.As to the reform trend of vocal music teaching in normal universities, the author assumes that scientific manner of articulation is a vertical requirement and the understanding of the diversity of vocal music is a horizontal requirement. This thesis further demonstrates the possibility of the entry of various forms of vocal music into the vocal music teaching in normal universities. It shows that the idea of scientific manner of articulation removes obstacles to singing style for the entry of pop music into vocal music teaching in normal universities, and the development of individuality and diversity removes obstacles to style for the entry of public music into normal universities. In addition, by taking pop music as an example this thesis studies specific measures which include the reference and fusion of materials, the selection and arranging of didactical track, the reference and fusion of class mode and the application of high-tech products.
