Selective curriculum in colleges is settled for meeting the demands of students' preferences, promoting their character development and broadening their horizons, to consummate their knowledge structure and improve their comprehensive qualities. Since 2000 Shanghai Theatre Academy began implement selective curriculum and acquired some achievements. Along with the progress problems revealed gradually, some are puzzling the staff and the administration department. This thesis, which based on the investigation and analysis of the implementation of selective curriculum in Shanghai Theatre Academy, studied the implementation of selective curriculum in art colleges.Chapterâ… is the introduction. This section mainly introduced the research background and significance and the methods used, summarized the literature and defined the conceptions.Chapterâ…¡concerns the investigation. After conducting surveys and interviews of the presentation situation of selective curriculum in Shanghai Theatre Academy, we found that there exist some problems such as inadequate quantity, unreasonable structure; low enthusiasm of the staff, along with the difficulties of quality control. These problems partly restricted the development and affected the function of the selective curriculum.Chapterâ…¢analyze the causes. We analyzed the above problems which existed in Shanghai Theatre Academy and realized that there are five causes affected the selective curriculum.Chapterâ…£, the last section, proposes the countermeasures. This thesis focused on the problems of selective curriculum in the process of implementation in Shanghai Theater Academy, analyzed the causes, and brought up some countermeasures for optimizing selective curriculum in art colleges, which mainly included:the establishment of institutions to strengthen top-level design; the range expand of the curriculum; the enhancement of guidance for students; and the integration of resources to strengthen management.
