Oil painting created in the West, came into China about centuries ago. Contemporary oil painting artists used to think about when Chinese use this art media with the western ideology to express their feelings and emotions, how should this clash Chinese and Western cultures and blend them together. In traditional Chinese culture, the image expression is a significant way of the characteristics and traditions. Painters always think of using the image expression in their paintings and already put those issues into practice, hoping to match the Chinese aesthetic psychology, and then to heritage the Chinese culture.Chapter 1 is to analyzing how image expression has created and what is the characteristic of it. in order to show its important historical position in traditional Chinese painting. Chapter 2 is to combing through the image expression of Chinese painting in the history, illustrating it is an inevitable historical trend. Chapter 3 include two parts, first part is to compare the differences between the Eastern and Western painting, (including the screen structure, shape, aesthetic and so on), summed up the inevitability appearance of the image expression in Chinese oil paintings. Second part is to analyze its importance of accurately convey the inner feelings. Chapter 4 is to analysis images expression's theoretical and practical significance in the present, hoping to summarize its has a unique expression of artistic value, which is the summary explanation of the issue.Of course, facing the complex diversity of the contemporary artistic environment, "Image Painting" is also facing new challenges. How to deal with the changes of diverse kinds of art continuous, how to deal with the image of Chinese oil paintings of expression, which the writer is thinking and doing .
