Humanity is in an era of the image culture, and the image is occupying every sides of our lives in an unprecedented power. In the construction of contemporary images, the image occupies a large proportion, such as film, television and photographic images. These images content and meet the people's eyes. In the image highly developed age, the image has a certain influence in painting. On the surface, it seems to make the traditional paintings tending to be marginalized. However, from the development of the current situation, the image makes a larger development space for painting in a certain, rather than replacing the painting, making the painting achieving a new realm in language skills, carrying concept and some the expression of the forms. "Image Painting" is the product of this era. It expresses an image visual effect with a painting pattern, and it is a new artistic expression of painting. It evolves up and develops under the impact of the image painting.This paper selects "Image Painting" produced in the era of image culture as the research object, and analyzes the different effect of painting produced under the different social contexts and different cultural environment. In the present development of western art, a lot of image cultures, such as photography and film, have been integrated into the people's life. We enter into a visual culture era with the primarily of an image creation. Gerhard Richter created the "Image Painting" with an image to express an effect of painting in such environment. Due to the own experience, the understanding of ideology and the influence of age and environment make the representative of the western "Image Painting"-Richter having a changeful style. While, the "Image Painting" has produced a kind of collective painting phenomenon in China. In Chinese contemporary art, painting is still the major way of the artistic expression, together with the Chinese unique artistic environment. China has the official art system which is the most developed system in the world. This is an instruction to the standard and orientation of the mainstream art. In such a background. "Chinese Image Painting" becomes an important integral phenomenon after "Political Pop Art" and "Play Cynical Realism".This paper mainly adopts the methods of biography and comparison in research. Through analyzing the "Image Painting" in the different contexts, we can see that the produced root of any one painting style in every era is inseparable with this era environment. Art is advancing with the times, and more should be advanced. The artists of image painting express the unique sense of "Image Painting" in their own experiences with the era. It is an exhibition of an artist's spiritual life and inner world, an important means for us to understand and analyze the formed process of an artist's painting style. Based on the analysis of the "Image Painting", we can also see that in the world environment, it has a significant meaning for the Chinese contemporary artists to select the collective painting.
