| Lin Yu-tang is a unique character in modern China. The diversification of the literature form such as "Yu-si"'s swiftness and ferocity, "Lun-yu"'s humour and leisure and also the special works in English promote Lin Yu-tang cultural personality's multiplicity. Lin Yu-tang's culture forms presented a picture of diversification, and he was always pursuing the personality freedom and independence and firmly clinging to his character of liberalistic writer through the specific and meticulous analysis on his prose from the 1920s to 1930s. This thesis is composed of three contents as follows. The chapter one mainly introduced how Lin Yu-tang's cultural citizenship came into being. It was due to the Chinese liberalism's growing and also closely related to the western education based on the personality factors. The chapter two mainly talked about the liberal feature in Lin Yu-tang's prose from the 1920s to 1930s. Although the contents and form changed a lot at different period, it interpreted the meaning of the liberalism from the different angles. The chapter three wholly discussed the social significance by Lin Yu-tang's liberalistic prose. It not only stands for the single meaning of Lin Yu-tang, but also is the miniature of the liberalistic writers in modern China. |
