The wind and drum music in the mid-south Shandong Province, centered around Zaozhuang City, is an important branch of the wind and drum music in Shandong Province with a long history of more than 2,000 years. Suona, its major instrument, was introduced into China from Persia (the old name of Iran) and Arabian countries. At the very beginning, Suona was played in the elegant occasions like etiquettes. After Ming Dynasty, Suona music went into its booming stage, and gradually began to gain its folk popularity. Now it is played in every corner of the social life.This dissemination, based on the predecessors academic achievements and my fact findings, is intended to explore Suona systematically, including its birth, development, shape & structure, tunes, playing skills and so on, then analyze the tonality transformation of the Ping School's copper-bar Suona originated in Tengzhou, and finally discuss its current dilemma and inheritance. The dissemination falls into five parts.Part one introduces Zaozhuang's geography, history, and humanities, and their influences on the development of the folk Suona music.Part two analyzes the shape & structure, the band formation and the playing patterns of the folk Suona music in Zoazhuang.Part three reveals the existing state and the application in folkways of the folk Suona music in Zoazhuang.Part four discusses the composition, playing skills and expression techniques of the folk Suona music in Zoazhuang.Part five explores the tonality change of the Ping School's copper-bar Suona, and its current dilemma and inheritance.By giving a comprehensive description to the development of the folk Suona music in Zoazhuang in these five parts, this dissemination aims at providing some useful reference to the further exploration, collating and protection of the folk Suona music in Zoazhuang.
