Social music education, together with school music education, constitutes the whole music education system. However, compared with the latter, the former, as an important part of the whole music education system, train a larger group of students with a deep social influence. On one hand, the progress of social music education reflects the music cultivation of a nation; on the other hand, it is part of spiritual cultivation of a country. Since the 18th National People’s Congress of Communist Party of China, the social music education has entered a new era. Therefore, it is worth investigation and research as regard to its current situation and its further development in a proper way.This thesis investigates and researches some musical instrument stores and training organizations, and analyzes the current situation of music education in Hongshan District, Wuhan, Hubei Province. From the data analysis of the relevant questionnaires and interviews with teachers and students in the district, which are based on theories and characteristics of music education, this paper points out the existing problems of current social music education and puts forward strategies for its development in a proper way.This thesis consists of six chapters. Chapter One is the introduction with the background, reasons, research significance and current research of this topic. Chapter Two explains the theories and significance of social music education. Chapter Three is includes the questionnaires and interviews in Hongshan District, Wuhan. Chapter Four points out the existing problems of current social music education through data analysis. Chapter Five puts forward strategies for future development. Chapter Six is the conclusion of this paper.
