John Dewey is one of the greatest American philosophers and educators in 20th century,who puts forward the philosophy of teacher's development " put the learner first in learning" through criticizing the traditional teacher-centered philosophy, which includes three main points:the role of teachers, the teacher-student relationship and the teachers' education. Dewey's philosophy of teachers has exerted a great impact on teachers' education researching work and teachers' professional development field through the ages. Based on the previous research on John Dewey's philosophy of teachers, the author will reread and decode his philosophy of teachers one by one, and divide the three main points into two levels: teaching level and educational level. Then, we will discuss the implication John Dewey's philosophy of teachers brought to the teachers' professional development and put forth some advice and suggestions for teachers' professional development. Besides, we will come to analyse the manifestations of John Dewey's philosophy of teachers in the foreign language teaching stratum, and explore whether Dewey's Philosophy of Teachers' Development is applicable to the foreign language teachers' development, in order to construct a sound theoretical framework for the foreign language teachers' professional development. And the author hopes to shed some light on the foreign language teachers' professional development.
