The Study On The Reinforcement Troops In Jingkang Years Of The Northern Song Dynasty

In the late Northern Song Dynasty,the Jin government waged two large-scale wars on the Song government.Under this circumstance,the Capital was in danger.The Song government made decrees that called on the troops to save the Emperor.There were mostly two ways for routing this command of reinforcement,one was sending special envoy delivering the message by Jidi,the other was recruiting warrior holding wax letter by path.After receiving the order of reinforcement,every Lu organized their soldiers and came to the Capital. Quite a large number of the troops had no intention of doing battle with the enemy,in especial the commanders who wield an army had a negative attitude.Meanwhile,some reinforcement troops showed the death of valuable spirit.There inforcement troops had no powerful command organization from beginning to end in the period of Jingkang. As a result, they adopted a strategy of fragmentation and their actions differed from each other.In logistics system, the military supplies were mainly through donating,plundering,buying corn,selling salt note and so on.The logistics supplied by the ordinary people and the states and countries on the way to the Capital.As a whole,the deficiency of the logistics system had a negative influence on the soldiers' morale in fighting.During the first war,there were over a half-million soldiers mobilized by the Song government,and over 200000 soldiers arrived Dongjing.During the second war,there were over million soldiers in thereinforcement troops,merely 38000 soldiers succeed in Dongjing.The ordinary people,who were temporary recruited,accounted for a high proportion in thereinforcement troops.Their military discipline was slack and corrupting,and their reward was unfair.These,to a certain extent, affected the fighting capacity.Their combat capability,as a whole,was very low.They were repeatedly defeated badly by enemy in the hold superiority's situation.After failure,a large number of these reinforcement soldiers repatriated.Still there were some soldiers became robbers.Some other reinforcement troops were not dismissed,they formed the initial squads of the Southern Song Army.The reason of failure mostly had two sides,one was the corrupting military and politics in the end of the Northern Song Dynasty,the other was the fundamental policy mistakes of capitulating or compromise that the Northern Song government pursued.
