The Rothschilds was a very famous European Jewish banker. The first Rothschild—Mayer Rothschild set up the Rothschild bank in the late 18th century. Through generations, the Rothschilds developed their banking businesses in five famous European cities and played an important role on financial in Europe over two hundred years.Being a typical Jewish family, the Rothschilds kept Jewish traditions and involved in Jewish communities. They produced a great influence on Zionism. The French family member Edmond de Rothschild provided funds for the Palestine Jewish immigrates in the late 19th century and helped them buy lands and settle down. The English family member Walter de Rothschild played an important role in England during the First World War with Weizman, promoted the publication of Balfour Declaration which had brought a great influence on the establishment of the State of Israel. The Rothschilds endeavored to mediate the Arab-Jewish conflicts after the First World War and help Jewish refugees during the Holocaust. The Rothschilds had made a contribution to the establishment and development of the state of Israel.This paper is divided into four parts. The first part is about the rise of the house of Rothschild; The second part discusses the changing attitudes of the Rothschilds toward zionism; The third part expounds the promoting role of the Rothschilds played in the event of Balfour Declaration; The last part is about the contribution of the Rothschilds made in the establishment of the State of Israel and the economic and cultural development in Israel.
