"Cultural Turn"was first normally introduced by Susan Bassnett and Andre Lefevere in their co-edited anthology"Translation,History and Culture"(1990). In the following 20 years, more attention has been paid not only to texts and/or repertories of texts in historical paradigms, but also to those institutions and social factors that influence their production. The birthday of western"Cultural Turn"in translation studies is also the day of its introduction to China. Scholars like Xie Tianzhen, Zhang Nanfeng, Wang Dongfeng and Jiang Xiaohua have played an active role in introducing these related theories to China, such as postcolonial and feminism translation theories. As for the current global trend and intrinsic nature of translation studies, personally speaking,"Cultural Turn"just enlarges and widens the realms of translation studies. The"linguistic ontology"of translation practice and the related studies concerning the exterior socio-cultural contexts jointly compose the"ontology of translation studies"which widens the scopes of translation studies in new era. It becomes the lightspot of the translation due to its exterior descriptive research which covers the translation theory and cultural practice. Meanwhile, the descriptive research circling the"processes, causes and outcomes of translation"also brings new angle to Chinese translation studies."Translation-cultural Effectology"is a tentative exploring concept of translation studies backgrounded upon the pondering on the grand theme of"culture and translation"and the relative theories on"Cultural Turn". It was originated from two academic projects directed by Liu Ruiqiang who has been working as an English teacher in Changji College and persistently pursuing academic progress."Translation-cultural Effectology"is rooted in the soil of"Translation Effectology"and put more emphasis on"Macro-translation Effectology"study which stresses interactive effects between Sino-western translation theory study and socio-cultural historical contexts, Sino-western translation theory study and cultural translation practice. Based upon author's previous probing study of the"Translation-cultural Effectology"and stipulating the two main realms and three basic concepts, the dissertation is intended to construct a more reasonable and scientific"Macro-translation Effectology"research paradigm. Generally speaking,"Translation-cultural Effectology"is academically divided into two main realms: one is the study of the interactive effects between Sino-western translation theory study and its socio-cultural historical contexts, and the other is interactive effects between Sino-western cultural translation practices and the socio-cultural historical contexts. The reason why the author chose Lu Xun who has long been esteemed as renowned revolutionist, thinker, writer and translator in China is that we should take a cultural rereading on Lu Xun's translation thoughts and his translating practice rather than just a superficial and technical static analysis.Initially, the theoretical development of"Cultural Turn"will be hackled and the original relationship between the"Translation-cultural Effectology"and"Macro-translation Effectology"will be clarified. Based upon the above analysis, two main realms and three basic concepts of the"Translation-cultural Effectology"are to be stipulated and refined. The theoretical research framework and methods are proposed. Then Lu Xun's translation thoughts and practice together with socio-cultural historical contexts of his time will be analyzed. Finally, the interactive effects between Lu Xun's translation thoughts and socio-cultural contexts of his time will be culturally analyzed under the theoretical framework of"Translation-cultural Effectology".
