The local customs in Nanchang has been formed over months and years, covering the aspects of clothing, diet, architecture, traveling method, religion, culture, education, labor work, production activities, etc.,which is the microcosm of traditional Chinese culture. The C-E translation of the cultural texts about customs is the medium for the propagation of Chinese culture to the world as well as the bridge for cross-cultural communication between China and western countries. The translation practice of the cultural text about the local customs provides the world a more comprehensive understanding of the local folk culture as well as an opportunity for a presentation of Nanchang to the world in order to attract more foreign tourists for a visit of experiencing the civil atmosphere of the city, thereby promoting the local tourism and the international cultural communication. The report selects an excerpt about 10,000 words from the book Nanchang Customs as the source text of the translation practice which is translated with the guidance of Susan Bassnett's Cultural Translation Theory whose core concept is that the translation should be conducted at cultural level rather than merely discourse level and poses a case study from the aspects of lexical, syntactic and discourse levels through the analysis of dozens of representative examples from the author's translation version. The report,in which the specific process of translation is recorded, conducts a thorough discussion concerning the problems encountered in the translation practice and proposes corresponding countermeasures. The personal suggestions for the translation of similar texts are given based on the final conclusion of the practice.
