| English News Headlines are the windows shown directly to the readers when they firstly glance at the newspaper. In this information exploding century, people are found inundated in various kinds of messages. Of all kinds of news, financial news plays a very important role. Financial Times, one of a very famous British media proved to be excellent in providing qualified financial news and their Chinese translations.This thesis, with the purpose of discussing the financial news headlines translating, chooses the latest financial news titles from FT as the material and discussed them from the perspective of pragmatics.In the first chapter, the author discussed the definition of news headlines and probe into the differences between English and Chinese headlines. Furthermore, language features are generally introduced.Next chapter comes with the origin and development of pragmatics translation and introduction of the research condition. In the third chapter the author compared the advantages and disadvantages of the application of semantics and pragmatics in NH translation, and the pointed out the shortcomings of semantics.With the discussion of background, relative theory, the fourth chapter mainly talked about the practical translating strategies of NH, including literal translation, extra information adding and context distilling.Compared with other types of news headlines, FNH is different from others, such like sports news headlines. The language used is more special and the difference between Chinese and English thinking pattern is more obvious. How to ensure the equivalence of these two languages and reach the goal of effective communication is the main theme this thesis talked about.
