Study On The Crammaticalization Of "Bu Yao Tai"

The theory of Grammaticalization, Semantic Presupposition, Subjectivisation and Pragmatics are used as the theoretical base to analyze the characteristics of the Chinese phrase "Bu Yao Tai" (Type A→Type B). The analysis includes their choice of follow-up component, the performance of grammaticalization, the phase of grammaticalization and so on. The dissertation mainly focuses on reconstructing the motivations of the process type A to B, comprehensively and systematically. The article is divided into six chapters:Chapter one is an introduction to summarize previous studies which involve the studies on the structure of "Bu Yao Tai" and the redundant negation, and based on the summary we point out the weaknesses of previous studies. At the same time, we list the theoretical foundation of this article—Grammaticalization, Presupposition, Subjectivisation and so on, present the idea, methods, significance of this study and selected corpus.The second chapter describes the meaning of A-type and B-type, combined w iththe characteristics of selecting the follow-up adjective according t o it s idealized cognitive models and classification in quality and emotional colouring .We can discover the similarities and differences between A-type and B-type.Then chapter three proves the obvious characteristics of grammaticalization of type B by analyzing the changes in semantics, structure, pronunciation and scope of usage, compared with related grammaticalization theory.The fourth chapter defines the phase of grammaticalization of B-type, which is "middle area" or "adverb" rank, and it is in a low degree of grammaticalization. According to language evolution model, type B is in the transition period of order to quasi-disorder phase, and it is not stable in the language.The fifth chapter is about the explanation of grammaticalization motivation of B-type. Its mechanism of grammaticalization is re-analysis related with previous theories. In addition, the semantic-compatibility, the subjectivity features of A-type, the characteristics of pragmatics and rhetoric use on the need, make the evolution from A-type to B-type possible.Chapter six summarizes the contents of the previous five chapters. A number of inherent characteristics of type A and implied meanings from the usage, just meet people's psychology of pursuing difference, thus further speed up the spread of B-type and fix its meaning.
