Horizon of expectations is an important concept in aesthetics of reception (reception theory or reception study), which is mainly a literary theory, in a strict sense, a literary criticism theory. In translation studies, readers'horizons of expectations differ with the differences in their ages and educational background and the times they live in. Therefore, it is necessary for the translator to adjust their translation strategies to meet the horizon of expectations of different target readers.Since horizon of expectations is one of the theories in literary criticism, it can and should be used to analyze the source text in translation studies so that the translator will have a better understanding of the source text to produce a good target text. Based on horizon of expectations, this thesis will make a comprehensive study of the special cultural and linguistic features in Moment in Peking and make a comparison of the different choices of translation strategies in microscopic and macroscopic ways with regard to the two Chinese versions respectively of Zhang Zhenyu and Yu Fei. The thesis also makes a thorough study of the confusion between the source text and the target text of Moment in Peking, analyzes the external and internal reasons of this phenomenon, and points out that this confusion is a powerful evidence of the success of Zhang Zhenyu's Chinese version in the consideration of the different horizon of expectations among different readers. .
