The Research Of Chinese Traditional Filial Piety

Filial piety which is the basic of traditional morality is the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation. As a moral values which reflect the law of development of human beings and one of the core of Chinese traditional ethics it is an important part of Chinese culture. Evolved from the religious ethics of ancestor worship to the political ethics it has thousands of years history. Filial piety plays an important role in coordination of family and social relations, establishing of personal responsibility and Obligation etc. However with the evolution of society weaken of the traditional concept of filial piety is very common in modern society. There are reasons in many aspects including historical and realistic. To solve this problem a new kind of filial piety which adapt modern society and agree with the development should be established with the traditional filial piety criticized and inherited and essential content absorbed according to the demands of construction of a harmonious society.Based on the historical materialism and previous studies, the traditional filial piety ideology was analyzed and how to establish new filial piety which adapts the modern society was discussed. There are three parts in this paper. In section one the origination evolution and content of traditional filial piety was studied and the effect on history was also analyzed. In section two weaken of filial piety in modern society and the reason was discussed. In section three the modern value of traditional filial piety was analyzed and to establish harmonious socialist society was also investigated. Filial piety has a unique role in maintaining the harmony and stability of family and social promoting the development of social moral. In the society nowadays, it should be innovated with the modern characteristics combined. The establishing of new filial theory is beneficial for the development of individual, Harmony and stability of family.
