A Study Of The Thoughts And Modern Significances Of The Book Of Filial Piety

Filial piety is the core of Chinese traditional culture which can also be called as the culture of filial piety.As the classic of the filial morality in Confucianism,on the basis of inheriting many filial ideas from Confucius,Mencius and Xunzi,The Book of Filial Piety formed a systematic theory framework of filial piety,which deeply influenced people s logic of moral thinking and social production practice.Therefore,the research on The Book of Filial Piety has undoubtedly offered solutions for the current moral problems in filial piety.This paper studies the filial piety thought of The Book of Filial Piety and its modern significance from four aspects.Firstly,the paper starts with the theoretical origin of filial piety,trying to explore the origin and original meaning of filial piety.It also summarizes the filial piety thoughts of Confucius,Mencius and Xunzi before Qin dynasty and then generalizes the author and the time of writing this book.Secondly,the author mainly analyzes the basic content of The Book of Filial Piety from three aspects,including the theoretical root of filial piety,the political function of filial piety to govern the country and the principle and etiquette of filial piety,which provides the research basis for the critical inheritance of filial piety thoughts.Thirdly,by using dialectics to analyze the essence and dross of filial piety thought,this paper then fully affirms the rational part of this book which very much confirms to the modern society.Finally,on the basis of affirming the rationality of filial piety,the paper discusses the modern enlightening significance of The Book of Filial Piety to contemporary socialist harmonious society,including the enlightening significance for personal value,the realistic significance for parent-child relationship in the modern family and pension problem and the important significance of building a socialist harmonious society.
