America always has a deep influence on foreign language teaching all over the world and now it's one of the counties having a large-scale reform on foreign language teaching. The reform in 1996, no matter from the size to the effort is the biggest one and it must have a profound influence on American education. As a programmatic document for the reform, the role of Standards for Foreign Language Learning:Preparing for the 21st Century must be very important; we can learn something from it.Our country also has a long history of foreign language teaching; it can be traced back to Qing dynasty. Today though we have a high rate of foreign language learning, we still meet some problems, such as inefficiency, only a few kinds of foreign languages are being taught.
