Wang Ling lived in the period of Emperor Renzong of Northern Song Dynasty. He gained a high reputation in the South China. Although lived a commoner life, He is a genius person and has the noble interests. He always sticks to the belief of Confucianism, and regard it as the principle of ideal of rational life. He's a Confucian scholar with the great ambition which is poor and stronger, not falling strong will. Wang Ling's prose, which is a reflection of his thought system, has a very important research value. In this paper, the interpretations of its prose explore and systematically analysis the spirit of life and features shown in his article. Therefore combined with the historical background and ideological background, we can better determine its position in the Song Dynasty's literary history. The paper is divided into two parts:In the first part, the paper introduces the idea reflected in the content of Wang Ling prose. It emphasizes the life spirit of essay. Wang made the conduct of the Confucianism, especially paid attention to his own morality. He seeks to set up schools of Confucianism and to conduct people with Confucianism. He sticks to Confucianism, negates all other miscellaneous theories and also he questions the former theories boldly and puts forward his own unique the theory of life. He concerns about national politics and summarizes some good policy for governing the country which can be used for reference. Although he persists in his aspiration, follows moral rules and retires to the folk, he can't dismiss the whole world from his mind even one day. He shows distinctive characters of true Confucian as a loner.Next part mainly introduces the characteristic of Wang Ling's literary genres. His essays reflect a conscious desire to return to an age of enlightenment and reason. With their rich contents and meanings, they showcase the alignment of stylistic characteristics between the ordinary and the outstanding in a unique way. His theoretical writings are both ingenious and incisive, while his narratives vivid and attractive. In his letters he expresses a sincerely deep amity, and his miscellaneous writings are designed exquisitely, expressing profound satire of the society. With literary works ranging across many unique and distinct styles, it is clear that Wang Ling's writing was unmistakably of a very high level.
