The Intellectuals' Break-through And Confusion During Transformation Period

The topic on the intellectuals'actual fate and value realization have been arguing in the foreign and Chinese academic circle, which is heavy, eternal and philosophically meaningful. The literature works on it can be found everywhere. Yanzhen, an unknown writer by readers, established his status in contemporary literature circle through three novels, which probed into the intellectuals during transformation period. He published his three novels successively in 1996, 2001and 2007, like《Once in the End of World》which focuses on the psychological confusion of the intellectuals abroad,《Water of Canglang》which dealt with contemporary circumstances of the intellectuals with traditional convictions,《Because of Women》which reflected the contemporary intellectuals'evolution towards love and outlook of life in the point of female. They are named the intellectuals'trilogy, which mainly formulated the intellectuals'images during social transformation period, such as Gaoliwei, Chidawei and Liuyiyi. The three literary images inflected truly and typically the intellectuals'break-through and confusion in distinctive context. The depictation of representative figures are provided with intense actual and historical significance.Many studies have come out on intellectuals in Yanzhen's writings, but there is no systematic comparison between his novels and Luxun's"misanthrope"in terms of content, the figures and artistic style. This paper will study the point from the following parts:The first part---- the three intellectuals'break-through and confusion pictured by Yanzhen in different circumstances. Seeing from the depiction on their difficulties, break-through, failure and confusion, the intellectuals who were living in the narrow gap between spiritual beliefs and real life had difficulty in taking a step. The power of fate was displayed through daily life.The second part---a detailed analysis on causes of the intellectuals break-through and confusion during transformation period. It's an eternal problem that their real existence conflicts with ultimate pursuit for value .But the contemporary intellectuals confronted with new problems , for example, the market economy, mundane philosophy. However, they have different causes.The third part----Yanzhen's unique writing technique leading to the success shape of the intellectuals image: the first person point of view, internal monologue and psychological self-examination and paradox situation.The fourth part, the important position of the intellectuals'image shaped by Yanzhen during transformation period in literature history. Since the May 4th movement, lots of intellectuals'images had emerged in literature, who involved the feature of era. So was the intellectuals'images moulded by Yanzhen. And they had important significance on era and literature history. In contrast with Luxun's, the intellectuals'images had intrinsic differences.
