A momentous change has begun in the China’s countryside in the 1980 s.The disintegration of the Collective production system was happening as soon as the adoption of the contracted household responsibility systems. At the same time, the modernization process of the city has been promoted.China was in the social transition period. How did the writer Luyao look at such a special time? What is the particularity of Luyao’s views? We can find the answers of all the questions in the characters of his novels. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter is the discussion of the life of the intellectuals who came from the rural areas but wanted to live in the city. There are two typical images who named Gao Jia Lin from the novel named Ren Sheng and Sun Shao Ping from the novel named The Ordinary World. The discussion of the novel Ren Sheng can be contacted to “the Discussion of Pan Xiao ”.The real pursuit of Gao Jia Lin will be found to be a pursuit to taking part in the wave of the modernization. What his aspirations was the meaning of the life that couldn’t come true in the rural area in the social transition period. As the result, he made a decision to leave the rural area and went to the city. But he shouldn’t be summed up as an “individualist ”.His concept of the physical labour was “ For others in the objective, but for himself in the subjective ” as Pan Xiao. His traditional virtue couldn’t balance to his desire to the life in the modernization.Lu Yao was dissatisfied with it obviously so that he made Sun Shao Ping go to the city as a worker in the lowest level who recognized himself by “physical labour ” instead of just by “reading”. Lu Yao made the traditional virtue more important for Sun Shao Ping.Sun Shao Ping toke the pursuit of the meaning of life from Gao Jia Lin as same as the traditional virtue standing by De Shun.So that he was a perfect intellectuals from Lu Yao’s imagination but who couldn’t find his way in the social transition period. The second chapter analyzes the questions about “the separation of a family”and “for the public or for the private which Sun Shao An encountered in the rural area in the social transition period. And the tendency of the writer creating his characters will be find from the gap of the novel. Lu Yao’s unique attitude about “The disintegration of the Collective production system was happening as soon as the adoption of the contracted household responsibility systems ”.How did Lu Yao deal with kinds of questions in the rural area after the the adoption of the contracted household responsibility systems ? The answer will be gotten by compared with Zhang Wei’s novels “the series of autumn”.He made Sun Shao An a perfect leader in rural area who could not only adapt to the new economic policy, but also inheritance the rural virtue. And the “dark”breeding during the social transition period would be eliminated in this way. The third chapter is focused on two female characters in the social transition period.Lu Yao didn’t just write them as female, but took them as the carrier of “The virtue ”. Especially for Tian Run Ye,“The virtue ” is shown maximum by her.So although she was in the social transition period, but still belonged to the category of traditional rural women. Writing in this way really showed the imagine with traditional male to female, but more importantly, for him, female characters of " The virtue" was the first, the female gender was secondly, reflecting the author’s emphasis on " The virtue" in special historical period. Through the discussion of three chapters, the author Lu Yao’s unique view to the period of social transformation will be presented, and the problems in the text that the author himself was not aware of will be revealed.
