The citizenship of Athenian Polis is a unity of Athenian citizen community's membership and rights, which includes not only the hereditary privilege of citizens, but also lots of voting rights, ruling power, judicial power accord with it.The ancient Greek citizen concept and right consciousness germinated in Homer society, but the citizen collective consciousness and citizenship concept of Athenian emerged along with the initial arise of the Polis institution in the Archaic age. Subsequently, the reform of solon made the citizen community and citizenship of Athenian Polis to take shape initially.The age of Pisistratus, the age of Cleisthenes and the age of Pericles were the historical period which Athenian citizenship full developed. The tyranny of Pisistratus made the citizenship of Athenian Polis which solon's reform created maintained and improved in system; the reform of Cleisthenes made the citizenship of Athenian Polis obtained the power basis based on regional relationship by"Demo"and new administrative divisions, thus basically accomplished the integration and application of Polis's citizenship in voting, holding official position and serving as a juryman; the reform of Pericles provided the most thoroughly policy for the full development of Athenian Polis's citizenship, and Athens democracy which based on the widely application of the citizenship achieved in a period of great prosperity, thus to be a brilliant classical heritage of the age of Pericles.After the Peloponnesian War, Athenian Polis system was declined in all its aspects, as the core of Athenian Polis system, the citizen community and the mechanism of citizenship fell into disuse along with it.
