Nationalism is a very important subject and plays an important role in the process of modernization of China. As the longest issued large-scale integrated journal of modern China, the Eastern Miscellany vigorously disseminated nationalism relying on its huge resource advantage from the day it was founded. This not only represents the magazine's viewpoint but also represents the trend of the society's public opinion. The nationalism thought of the magazine involved many respects. This paper studies the Eastern Miscellany and introduces its nationalism thought in the late Qing Dynasty.The patriotic emotion of the Eastern Miscellany is extremely intense. In the late Qing Dynasty, the Eastern Miscellany pays close attention to the national survival. It strongly requires that people should use civilized way to resist aggression. The magazine recognizes that the Chinese traditional society structure can not adapt to the needs of the times and must be reformed. Only by this way, Chinese nation can become prosperous and powerful. So the Eastern Miscellany advocates that people should carry on inter-state construction. These measures can enhance the country's strength and the ability of competition. Then the nation can win independence, fundamentally. Also the magazine believes that the transformation of the Chinese modern society is a long and difficult process, and the reformation is a long and difficult task. So people can not be anxious. It should be carried out gradually and orderly in the nation internal.The Eastern Miscellany pays positive attention to the revitalization of the nation in the late Qing Dynasty. Its nationalism thought has unique and active significance. However, there are some drawbacks in the nationalism thought of the Eastern Miscellany.
